Packing for Sziget is different from packing for any other festival. You are camping on an island in the middle of the Danube, in the middle of a European capital, in the middle of August. The weather, the culture, and the unique logistics of Sziget all demand a specific packing strategy. Pack too much and you will hate carrying it across the bridge. Pack too little and you will be overpaying at the on-site shops.

Budapest Weather in August
Budapest in August is hot. Daytime temperatures average 26-32C (79-90F) and can spike to 35C (95F) during heatwaves. Nights stay warm at 15-20C (59-68F). Rain is possible but usually comes as short afternoon thunderstorms rather than all-day drizzle.
What this means for packing: lightweight, breathable fabrics for daytime, a light layer for evening, and a very basic rain poncho just in case.
Camping Gear
This is where most people make mistakes. Let us break it down:
The Tent Deposit System: When you bring your own tent, you purchase a Leave-no-tent deposit ticket for 30 euros. When you leave, bring your tent to a Green Sziget Point and you get the 30 euros back. Alternatively, you can pre-order a Sziget Pick-up Tent (99 euros for 2-person) or book a pre-pitched tent in upgrade areas.
Recommended Camping Gear:
– Tent: A 2-person tent is plenty for one person. Pop-up tents are easiest. Make sure it has a rainfly.
– Sleeping mat: Self-inflating or foam. The ground is hard and uneven.
– Sleeping bag or sheet: A lightweight summer sleeping bag (10-15C rating) or just a cotton sheet + blanket.
– Pillow: Inflatable travel pillow or stuff sack with clothes.
– Tent repair kit: Duct tape and extra pegs. Winds can pick up on the island.
– Mallet or hammer: For driving tent pegs into hard ground.
Clothing: Day vs Night
Daytime (hot, sunny): Shorts (2-3 pairs), T-shirts and tank tops (4-5), Light summer dress or skirt, Swimsuit, Wide-brim hat or cap, Sunglasses, Light scarf or bandana.
Evening/Night (warm but cooler): Light hoodie or sweater, Jeans or lightweight trousers, One nicer outfit for a night out in Budapest.
Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes (15,000-25,000 steps per day), Flip-flops or sandals for showers and beach, Waterproof boots if it gets muddy.

Biodegradable wet wipes (lots), Hand sanitizer, Toilet paper (on-site toilets run out), Travel-size shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, Deodorant, Toothbrush and toothpaste, Sunscreen SPF 50+, Lip balm with SPF, Insect repellent, After-sun or aloe vera gel, Basic first aid kit, Earplugs (essential for Basic Camping), Sleep mask, Tampons, pads, or menstrual cup, Quick-dry microfiber travel towel.
Electronics
Power bank (20,000 mAh minimum – will charge your phone 4-5 times), Phone and charging cable, European power adapter (Type F – two round pins), Headlamp or LED torch (essential for camping at night), Portable speaker (be respectful after midnight), E-reader or book for beach downtime.
Documents and Money
Passport or national ID card, Festival ticket (digital or printed), Travel insurance documents, Flight/train tickets, Cash (Hungarian Forint), Revolut or Wise card for best exchange rates, Regular bank card as backup, Photocopies of all documents kept separate from originals.
Sziget uses a cashless wristband system – load money at top-up stations. Unspent balance can be refunded at the end. Pro tip: start with 50 euros and top up as needed.
What NOT to Bring
Too much food (Aldi is on-site with normal prices), Valuables or jewelry, Drones (strictly prohibited), Glass bottles, Large suitcases (backpack or duffel only), Your own alcohol in bulk (security limits it), Portable gas stoves (fire safety), Winter clothes (nights are warm enough).
